How I use the CIN server directories - born group/born study/etc. (FIN)

What is "born_study" and "born_group"?

"born_study" and "born_group" are network drives! They are connected to our server via Samba.

born_study (\\172.25.250.112\born_study)

"born_study" is only for experiments/studies! This is connected on SleepLaps PCs. Folder structure is the first study name and then the name of the experimant leader, for example "Online-Spi-Stim-Hong-Viet Ngo".

The folder name can be also assigned in 10 years.

born_group (\\172.25.250.112\born_group)

This is a network drive for the whole group! This directory is made for data exchange. The person that is providing data or documents for someone is supposed to place these data inside a folder named with his own name.

In this directory you have all permission to write and read data and to change folder names.

"born_group" isn´t for personal backups!

personal server folder (CIN login name)

The directory named with your CIN login name is supposed to be for the backup of your personal data that is stored locally on your PC.

In the case of temporarily unavailable servers you can still access your personal data. This backup directory is for storing your personal data. For example when the hard drive of your PC is broken.

To do these backups you can do it “by hand” using copy/paste or you use a backup software (for example, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows).

How to use the MEDPSYCH server directories - group/study/etc. (alteHNO)

The structure of the directories that are for common use of all members of the institute have changed. Now there are new directories under “Computer” called “Study (Z:)”, “Group (Y:)” and a directory named like your login name “[username] (X:)” (if you want this folder sent an email to support-mp[at]medizin.uni-tuebingen.de - e-mail subject = personal server folder).

In the following it is explained how to use these directories.

Study (Z:)

This directory is only for raw data! All your raw data is supposed to be stored here. You can paste data and folders here. But you will not have permission to change anything in this directory! For this reason you must first create the folder you want to store in Study on your desktop. Then you to put all you data in there and name it. Then you can copy this folder and paste it into Study.

You can create new folders directly at Study. But this should not be done, because the folder’s name cannot be changed and will remain as “New folder”.

This directory is not intended for saving data analysis results or any other documents, only raw data of measurements.

Group (Y:)

This directory is made for data exchange. The person that is providing data or documents for someone is supposed to place these data inside a folder named with his own name.

In this directory you have all permission to write and read data and to change folder names.

The directory “#Lehre” is also located here.

[username] (X:)

(if you want this folder sent an email to support-mp[at]medizin.uni-tuebingen.de - e-mail subject = personal server folder) The directory named with your login name (user name) is supposed to be for the backup of your personal data that is stored locally on your PC.

In the case of temporarily unavailable servers you can still access your personal data. This backup directory is for storing your personal data. For example when the hard drive of your PC is broken.

To do these backups you can do it “by hand” using copy/paste or you use a backup software.
